Upper Fifteen, Inc.

Meeting Minutes

9/1/99

Present: Barnewall, Dorgan, Heslin, Gomez, Moss, Schramm, Thompson, Winslow

Guests: Jeff McCarthy, (2nd meeting), Greg Paige (former Senior member), Kari Mattox, staff writer for the Times-Union newspaper

President Schramm called the meeting to order at 2017, following a pre-meeting discussion of emergency procedures in regard to electrical system malfunction. Minutes: The last minutes were e-mailed by Thompson, and were accepted as mailed.

Treasurer: Treasury balance was reported at $356 offset by bills in hand for about $1,800, including the school tax bill. Cash flow is tight, and members are requested to pay their bills as soon as possible.

Membership: 14 Sr., 2 Jr., 4 openings. Greg Paige has requested re-instatement, and was voted in as a senior member, subject to the requirement that he receive a check ride before using Club aircraft. John Winslow submitted a completed Senior Member test, and was confirmed as a senior member by the Board subsequent to the meeting. Guests McCarthy and Mattox were introduced. Kari Mattox is working on a feature story about the Club for this weekend?s edition.

Rules & Publicity: No report. Nothing has changed on the Web front since last report. A photography session was scheduled with Ms. Mattox for Thursday morning to supplement her story on the Club.

Hangar & Grounds: The telephone side of the computer reservations system is back up, but the voice messages are very, very soft in volume. Listen closely in a quiet room. Tim Schramm will look further into the problem.

Log Books: Airframe logbooks for both aircraft were reported not in the hangar. Jim Welch will be contacted.

Aircraft9075R: The 100 hour is complete. The ELT battery needs to be changed, and a small problem with the beacon was noted. Both were to be fixed by 0800 on Thursday. Gomez noted for the benefit of the members that the DME in this aircraft must be initiated in the "Freq." Mode in order to work properly. If the unit is turned on while the selector switch is on "RMT", it will not work properly. Set the selector switch to "Freq." prior to turning the unit on. Members are reminded of the Club advice requiring aircraft to be topped off after each flight to avoid inconveniencing the next flyer. Use judgement if flying only an hour or so, but in no event leave either plane with less than four hours fuel aboard. Remember to note top-off tach times on the billing log.

Aircraft55144: Members are reminded to call the maintenance officer with squawks as well as noting them in the squawk log on the left side of the billing log box. Notes made on the billing log will not always get to the maintenance officer. Changes to the general billing log will be made so as to require members to write in the time remaining until an oil change. We hope this will encourage members to call the maintenance officer when an oil change is near (defined as within 7 hours of current tach time). In other news, the dent (upper side) and crack (lower side) on the left elevator will need to be repaired as a result of the FAA ramp inspection letter. Either of two alternatives (re-skin or install a used elevator) is expected to cost around $800 plus freight and labor, say maybe $1,100-$1,200 altogether. The elevator trim tab will be filed to increase its clearance from the elevator surface. The DME continues inoperative, and a roughly $700 repair will be recommended to the Board. Finally, the center frequency selector knob on the ADF is broken, and will be replaced.

Old Business: An interior renovation quote is still in progress of preparation. New Business: none

The meeting was adjourned at 2115.

Respectfully submitted,

Tom Thompson, Secretary
