Upper Fifteen Flying Club

Meeting Minutes

6/16/99

Present: Barnewall, Dorgan, Gomez, Oberg, Thompson

Secretary Oberg called the meeting to order at 2003

Minutes: The minutes of the meeting of June 2nd were read and approved.

Treasurer: Barnewall noted that cash in bank and on hand amounts to about $5,102, with bills outstanding for fuel and aircraft painting.

Membership: 14 senior, one junior, one admitted, four openings.

Rules & Publicity: No report.

Hangar & Grounds: Several interior lamps were reported out, and we need to replenish our windshield cleaner/polish stock. Thompson will attend to this by the weekend.

Logbooks: Up to date, per Barnewall

Flight Standards: No report.

Aircraft: 55144: 7 hours to oil change. Pilots are warned to watch the tach and call Dorgan when itís time for a change. Suction is reported on the low side despite changing the air pump, indicating a possible gauge problem. The right mag problem continues, and a new magnetic compass is on order. Dorgan will coordinate with our mechanic.

A buff and wax job for 55144 was approved, given the spectacular results of the one applied to 9075R (see below).

Aircraft: 9075R: Paint job is complete, and looks outstanding, thanks to a full-airframe clean-up and glaze job. The painter feels that our existing paint, combined with the ìtouch-upî job, will last another 2-3 years. However, errant hose clamps and a too-long hose have rubbed two, quarter-inch holes in the port side lower cowling, and removed all but a paper-thin area in another part of the cowling. The causes have been rectified, but need to be fixed when we do a paint job.

Numerous small squawks regarding lights, controls, and switches have proven to result from pilotís unfamiliarity with this aircraftís systems. Pilots are cautioned to familiarize themselves thoroughly with systems (read the manual, folks) and systems test procedures before reporting a squawk. In addition, excessive tire wear from poor landing techniques continues to be a problem. The main gear tires installed just two months ago already show cupping from sideways landings.

Gomez recommends that all 182 pilots schedule a systems refresher ride with an instructor or himself to more fully understand the aircraftís systems and their proper operation. He also observed that we should all brush up on our emergency procedures, too.

Thompson suggested the Club revive its previously written 10-hour transition curriculum for the 182, to ensure that instructors are advised of what to cover during the transition course.

Old Business: Gomez and Dorgan met with John OíDonnell, airport architect, to discuss possible future hangar location options. OíDonnell believes we can remain in our existing location for about two more years. A wide variety of items, places and issues was discussed, without any definite commitments on either part.

The Nominating Committee submits the following slate of nominees for office for the year 1999-2000:
