Membership: Ampela reported: The club stands at 20 members, 14 Senior and
6 Junior. He noted new interest received from 2 people, John Schneiter of
Troy, CEO of GlobalSpec, and Louis Vidello of the State Police. He
introduced Raj as well. Georges Hubain is #1 on standby list. Joe Schewe
and Bob Jones, having been in the Club six months, should receive senior
member tests. Thompson will follow up.
Rules & Publicity: Schramm found another host site for our Web site, and
has distributed an e-mail concerning how to use it to send e-mail to all
members.
Flight Standards:
No report
Hangar & Grounds: No reported problems except delayed snow removal on
Sunday after New Years Day. Taber will call airport ops to discuss.
Log Books: Up to date per Barnewall.
Aircraft: 144 Dorgan reported no change in aircraft status, and noted
that the mechanic will be repairing a number of cowling fastener holes in
the coming weeks.
A reminder: Fill the oil to 6 quarts max! Any more and it goes out the
breather and all over the belly of the aircraft.
Aircraft: 75R
100 hour being done, all club members must remember to report both oil and
100 hour times if they are within 5 hr of a oil change or 10 hour of a 100
hour inspection. That was not done this time, and the aircraft flew 7 hours
over the 100 hour mark.
The prop has about 1500 hours on it. This is basically the normal TBO. In
the past, the Club has continued to use the airplane beyond prop TBO, with
typical overhauls happening at about 2000 hours. Our propr appears to be in
good shape, with no leaks or vibrations from it. We are not legally
required to overhaul it due our Part 91 operation status. We can continue
to check on it until it reaches 2000 hours or begins to leak.
We had extensive repairs last month. The gas hoses at the wing root were in
sad shape. We also had work done on the seat tracks, and had the steering
bungy replaced at a cost of $2,400.
There are 11 quarts of oil missing and not recorded in the logs. This is
important because it means that we are using oil in the engines that is not
being reported, or that an oil change was unrecorded, or that someone is
stealing oil.
Mike Murray has priced some interior renovation alternatives, and will be
providing the Board with recommendations to spruce up both aircraft.
Estimated cost is between $6,000 and $6,500 each, if done by Airtex in
Pennsylvania.
In discussion, it was decided to continue to keep an eye on the prop for
leaks. If the mechanism fails, it defaults to high pitch, so flight can
continue. However, any oil leaks are of engine oil, so the problem must be
addressed quickly to avoid engine damage.
The following bears repeating:
Again! Do not add oil if the stick shows 6 qts. or better except when
taking a long trip in which case we should not exceed 7 qts.
Old Business: None
New Business: The Board election was held, with the following slate elected:
Chair: Heslin
Vice-Chair: Gomez
Dorgan
Paige
Schramm
The meeting was adjourned at 2105.
Respectfully submitted,
Tom Thompson, Secretary
