Membership: The club stands at 19 members, 14 Senior and 5 Junior. We have one member, Georges Hubain, who will be joining the club in mid September, when he returns from Europe.
Rules & Publicity: No report
Flight Standards: The FAA continues to emphasize safety in ground operations. The AOPA Air Safety Foundation developed a brief online learning program some time ago. This is an interactive program designed to teach pilots about runway incursion avoidance. It is divided into three modules:
--An arrival into Long Beach Airport, California
--A departure from Pittsburgh International Airport, Pennsylvania
Successful completion of this course satisfies the ground school requirement of the FAA "Wings" Pilot Proficiency Award Program. Simply print out the certificate after passing the test to show proof of completion.
The Web address for those interested in taking the online course is:

Hangar & Grounds: No problems were reported to Taber over the past month. Still a problem with the insulation falling down from the ceiling. Airport ops is aware of it and hopefully working on a solution. Three times over the past month Taber found one of the hangar doors left unlocked and twice the light left on in the big hangar. Please remember to check the light and doors. Taber would like to clean out the file cabinet and boxes of old paperwork. He needa a couple of volunteers who are knowledgeable of what paperwork can be tossed out to help with the cleanup. Don't all raise your hands at once...
Thompson suggested calking the base of the threshold plate on the north side personnel access door to prevent water leakage during rainstorms. He also suggested installing a few task lights at lower than ceiling level in the lounge area of the big hangar and over the small work desk in 75R's bay. Gomez noted that the airport is working to remove the mid-floor support column in the big hangar, and that added lights would be a good idea after that work is done.
The old Upper 15 hangar next to the new airport firehouse has been torn down. A moment of silence for history's sake, please
Log Books: Up to date per Barnewall.
Aircraft: 144 Oil was changed; and only 10 hours remain until the next change is due. Dimmer knobs for the post light and cabin flood were replaced. The compass card has also been re-calibrated. Dorgan has asked the mechanic to look at installing halogen landing and taxi lights. Although they cost more than the current bulbs, they have a 250 hour life versus a 25 hour life for the current bulbs. Plus they put out more light for the pilot to use.
144 is scheduled to get rigged during the week of September 16th. It will also have a 100 hour inspection at the same time. I am trying to arrange to have the transponder worked on during this time. The Comm 1-Comm2 switch on the audio panel will be replaced as it has started to cause problems.
A reminder: Fill the oil to 6 quarts max! Any more and it goes out the breather and all over the belly of the aircraft.
Aircraft: 75R There isn't much to report on 75R. We have a fresh annual complete with gear check and oil change. There are 9.9 hours left until the next change. We have taken care of the exhaust system directive. The exhaust system was replaced at the manufacturer's expense. Sometime around the first week in November, we will be replacing the seat tracks and also the gas hoses at the root of the wings. The plane will be down for the weekend (from Friday eve. to sometime on Sunday).
We also have a couple of flat spots on the tire. Easy on those brakes!!
The following bears repeating:
Again! Do not add oil if the stick shows 6 qts. or better except when taking a long trip in which case we should not exceed 7 qts.
Old Business: None
New Business: Members who still have a #39 key are admonished to turn it in to Airport Security. According to Murray's records, you include Cusick, Correa, Kindlon, Moss, Oberg, Schewe and Schramm.
The meeting was adjourned at 2023, a new record!.
Respectfully submitted,
